The City in the Fog

Hi everyone,

Sa Pa is known as the city in the fog, and boy, is that accurate. We woke to zero visibility. Thankfully, our travels today took us farther into the valley, where the fog was less dense.

We started the day with breakfast at the hotel, we met Toa at 8:30 and headed to the bus for an hour-long trip to Sin Chai. We arrived and began a long hike. Along the way, we saw lots of wildlife, including snails, horses, water buffalo, tiny fish, pigs, and a couple of frogs. We got to see all of them up close, and it was incredible seeing the animals in their natural environment.

We passed through two small villages, walked through rice fields, climbed hills, and went through a bamboo forest during our 4-hour, 8.5 km hike. The terrain was rough and muddy with steep elevation changes, but we persisted and made it for our hotpot lunch at 1 o’clock.

We took a tour around Nam Cang, the village where we ate lunch and got to watch the only silversmith in the village work, as well as hear the interesting process behind the production of all the village’s paper. We then took the bus back to the hotel, where we were able to relax for a couple of hours before heading off to a barbecue dinner. We grilled our own meat at the table, and it was great to cook together. We then headed back to the hotel and went to bed for the night.

We miss everyone back home, and we are sending lots of love!
